Welcome to Dharma Workshops

Take a leap into the arts to discover your inner wisdom. We offer Dharma workshops to connect with others and uncover the joy and beauty in life through creative expression.

1:00 - 3:00 pm
"Spring Breeze" Haiku Workshop
Deborah P Kolodji
About our Haiku Workshop
“Learn about the pines from the pine. Learn about the bamboo from the bamboo.
Don’t follow the footsteps of the old poets, seek what they sought.” – Basho
Join us for this special opportunity to come together as a community to explore the art of haiku. In this workshop, we will be listening to haiku, writing haiku and contemplating haiku as pathways to awakening to Dharma moments in our everyday experience. We will learn to take refuge in haiku themes of interconnectedness, impermanence, acceptance, and more. We will get a sense of how “wordless poems” can bring about healing and transformation in our lives and how to translate them into haiku. Whether you are interested in writing haiku as a creative expression or just cultivating a “haiku mind” to become more mindful, you are welcome to attend!
Optional follow-up activities:
March 21, 11:00 am: A self-guided Haiku Walk at the Mary and Joseph Retreat Center after our outdoor meditation meeting. A handout with tips for gathering haiku “seed” ideas will be posted soon.
March 28, 1:00 - 2:30 pm: A Haiku Review with Deborah P Kolodji to discuss submissions from workshop attendees. A haiku submission form will be posted soon.
