Insight Thru Improvisation: Inquiry and the Dharma A Series of Saturday Workshops - 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21

Time & Location

Sep 30, 1:30 PM – Oct 21, 4:30 PM

St. Cross Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Blvd, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254

About the event

This four-part series of Insight Thru Improvisation Dharma Workshops is being offered by our community members, Christen Sussin and Kathy Popoff. Join us to experience the benefits of increased confidence, creativity, and comfort with change through the practice of Improvisation. This exceptional offering is a fundraising initiative by our Improv coaches, and proceeds will be donated to South Bay InsightLA!

About the Series:

The theme, Inquiry and the Dharma, will be offered on four Saturdays to explore everyday life in terms of "Who?" of Relationships on September 30, "What?" of Intentions on October 7, "Where?" of Environs on October 14, and "Why?" of Choices on October 21.

During our workshops, participants will be led gently and joyfully through a series of exercises that open up new paths to the present moment. We will generate scenes through active listening, positive “yes, and…” responses, and intentional collaboration. We will also observe how the mind and body affect each other, and make note of concepts from our Insight practice that emerge as we play.

It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes for a full range a movement. Please bring water and snacks for our breaks. Find a map to the location on our Dharma Workshop page, and get ready for the fun of “acting up” on purpose!

About our Improv Coaches:

Christen Sussin has been a performer and teacher of Improvisation for over 20 years. She has appeared on shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Modern Family and created the entirely improvised TV Series, "Campus Ladies" for Oxygen with her fellow Groundlings Alumna Carrie Aizley.

Kathy Popoff is an enthusiastic amateur (in the original etymology of the word) of both meditation and improvisation. She is a retired attorney, and grateful to be so (the 'retired' part, that is).

About the Registration:

Registration is required and space is limited for these events, so if you would like to attend, please sign up as soon as possible. We encourage participants to commit to all four classes as skills and connection build over time, however, it is not mandatory. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. To bypass the registration fee, contact Eric McCullum at eric@insightla.org. We look forward to acting up with you there!
